“The season was excellent and the prospects are very good for the future too. The nautical sector on Lake Como has significant potential and excellent margins for improvement, provided that it is operated in a correct, ethical manner, avoiding speculation” is the comment of Fabio Lommi at the end of another good summer on the lake, despite the spring having been very rainy, with storms until July.

His is Nautic Planet, a boat rental and leasing company based in Menaggio and Tremezzo. Fabio Lommi runs the service with his son Jonathan and six employees. They deal with both motorboat rental and rental with driver.

Born in 2008, Nautic Planet owes its growth to the experience of the owner, acquired in 25 years of work in the field of recreational boating in one of the best shipyards in the Canton of Ticino. Precisely on the basis of that experience, Fabio Lommi underlines how important it is to maintain a good quality-price ratio in the service, a realistic and honest balance that can satisfy the customer, but also induce him to return.

«We offer a very high quality of service and it could notbe otherwise, we moor our boats in front of some of the most prestigious hotels on Lake Como. The boats must always be impeccable, in addition of course to ensuring maximum attention to safety”, explains Fabio Lommi. “However, we believe that the prices requested must be correct and not inflated following the luxury market. The objective must rather be to satisfy the clientele, not only the foreign ones, but also the Italian ones and those from nearby European countries, in order to induce them to return. This is the approach that was taught to me at the beginning of my career and that I have brought with me into the management of the business”.

The idea is to ensure that the business lasts over time, and to do so it is necessary to be able to count on a loyal clientele and a good name consolidated over the years. “We are still in a very favorable period and in a growth phase for the market,” adds Lommi. “Much of the future and growth of the sector on the Lario is linked to professionalism, in particular of those who deal with rental with driver. In such a positive moment, it would be worth investing in ensuring continuity, favoring correct behavior, good price management and avoiding speculation, as well as avoiding focusing on quantity, which often leads to poor service.”

Nautic Planet operates in two main areas: the rental of motor boats without a license, with a selection of 40 HP Allegra boats for up to 7 people. Since 2015, the fleet also includes a boat with driver, for up to 11 passengers, in order to offer an additional service. The service with driver embarks passengers a few meters from Villa Carlotta, a strategic starting point for the center of the lake.
